Anatomy

I practiced anatomy illustrations often in my spare time throughout my time as a student. During that time, I was also volunteering at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital where I assisted in the Occupational Therapy Department. While volunteering, my supervisor requested that I help her develop new illustrations for some of her patients after seeing some of my work. The samples of illustrations were developed both out of my own curiosity, and for various uses by the OT department at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital.

Sketching for the visually impaired.

Many of the patients that came into the OT Department at the VA Hospital were seniors with vision impairments. Confusing design of at-home exercise instructional handouts often led to a lack of participation in home practice of therapy exercises. Under advisement of an occupational therapist, I redesigned the VA carpal tunnel handout to increase participation of at-home exercises.

Studying to inform design.

Many of the orthotics I noticed being used while volunteering at the VA hospital did not allow for proper use of the hand. I used my anatomical drawings as reference to structure concept sketches I later developed to address these problem spaces.

ZBrush Time-Lapse

Learning to use ZBrush greatly improved my understanding of the body when developing concept sketched for products.  The video to the left demonstrates the construction of a human torso using skeletal anatomy as a base-point.
